EMSO DG Juanjo Dañobeitia and Kim Juniper with Ocean Networks Canada have organized an open session of the next AGU Fall Meeting. A description of the session is provided in the following invitation to participate by the two organizers.

Dear Ocean Observing Colleagues:

The European Multidisciplinary Seafloor and water column Observatory (EMSO ERIC) and Ocean Networks Canada invite you to submit an abstract to our jointly-sponsored session at the Fall meeting of the American Geophysical Union.
This session, entitled “Cooperative research strategies for ocean observatory infrastructures to support the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development“, will bring together organizations operating cabled and other fixed ocean observatory infrastructures to exchange and coordinate observing strategies that contribute to the goals of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. Throughout the Decade these observing systems will be collecting high-resolution, in-situ, ocean time-series data, in support of basic research, operational oceanography, and maritime safety, from the coast to the deep-sea floor. This session will highlight observing strategies and technological innovations that advance the goals of the Decade. Anticipated subject areas include i) networking of observatories for monitoring regional and basin-scale phenomena, ii) monitoring strategies for Marine Protected Areas, iii) capacity-building and community-based ocean observing programs, iv) event detection and real-time alerts, and v) time-series data product requirements for scientific and societal end users. Invited talks will include leaders and infrastructure operators, early-career scientists and societal end-users of ocean observations.

Looking forward to seeing you in San Francisco for the conference and the AGU 100-year celebration.

Please note the 31 July 2019 abstract submission deadline.
