SUMMARY:A Practical introduction to acquisition\, validation\, quality control and access to (biodiversity) data
DESCRIPTION:The Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (Instituut voor Onderzoek der Zee\, NIOZ)organized the workshop “A Practical introduction to acquisition\, validation\, quality control and access to (biodiversity) data” in Vlissingen\, the Netherlands\, from 14th to 15th June 2016.. The workshop was in the framework of the FixO3 project. It was aimed at early career scientists and PhD students. 19 applicants attended with early career scientists from a range of related scientific disciplines. \nThe agenda can be viewed here. \nThe course included training in methods and techniques for processing biodiversity data\, integrating physico-chemical and biodiversity data\, and delivering data products that may be required to meet policy needs such as Good Environmental Status (GES) descriptors. \nIntroduction\, terms and concepts on biodiversity: a few concepts on biodiversity\, by Herman Hummel (NIOZ)\, download presentation slides \nIntroduction\, terms and concepts on biodiversity: defining biodiversity in policy\, by Matt Frost (MBA)\, download presentation slides \nNetworking in marine biodiversity research and in data management: history of marine (biodiversity) research networks\, by Herman Hummel (NIOZ)\, download presentation slides \nBiodiversity data management: data acquisition and impacts on data quality\, by Sarah Faulwetter (HCMR)\, download presentation slides \nBiodiversity data management: metadata\, by Sarah Faulwetter (HCMR) and Nicolas Bailly (HCMR)\, download presentation slides \nBiodiversity data management: property rights and licences\, by Sarah Faulwetter (HCMR)\, download presentation slides \nBiodiversity data management: data flow and quality control\, by Sarah Faulwetter (HCMR)\, download presentation slides \nBiodiversity data management: the Ocean Biogeographic Information System (OBIS)\, by Pieter Provoost (IOC- UNESCO)\, download presentation slides \nBiodiversity data management: quality control in OBIS\, by Pieter Provoost (IOC- UNESCO)\, download presentation slides \nBiodiversity data management: tools for data processing\, community analysis I\, by Sarah Faulwetter (HCMR)\, download presentation slides \nBiodiversity data management: tools for data processing\, R\, by Pieter Provoost (IOC- UNESCO)\, download presentation slides \nPractical exercises on biodiversity data treatment: data normalization and formats\, by Sarah Faulwetter (HCMR) and Pieter Provoost (IOC- UNESCO)\, download presentation slides \nSpatial and temporal trends in marine biodiversity in Europe\, by Herman Hummel (NIOZ) and Matt Frost (MBA)\, download presentation slides \nPractical exercises on biodiversity data treatment: Community analysis II\, by Sarah Faulwetter (HCMR)\, Pieter Provoost (IOC- UNESCO) and Sander Wijnhoven (NIOZ\, EcoAuthor)\, download presentation slides \nThe use of biodiversity data in national and European directives / Marine protected areas and MSFD\, by Matt Frost (MBA)\, Herman Hummel (NIOZ) and Dan Lear\, download presentation slides
