SUMMARY:Goldschmidt Conference 2019
DESCRIPTION:The Goldschmidt Conference 2019 will be held in Barcelona\, Spain\, from 18th to 23rd August. Goldschmidt is the foremost annual\, international conference on geochemistry and related subjects\, organised by the European Association of Geochemistry and the Geochemical Society.\nThe extremely rich program of the event is divided in fourteen different themes\, featuring talk sessions\, workshops and social activities. \nEMSO would like to recommend one session in particular\, titled “The Oceanic Particle Flux and its Cycling within the Deep Water Column”\, (ID 10h) within the theme: Chemistry of the Oceans and Atmosphere. The session is intended to be multidisciplinary\, allowing scientists from different research areas – such as geochemistry\, biology\, oceanography\, modeling and climatology – to present the current status of our understanding of the most important issues related to oceanic particle flux. The aim is to find a synthesis\, while in turn highlighting knowledge gaps in the particle flux and its role in geochemical cycles. \nYou can read the abstract of the session here. \nThe deadline for abstract submission is 29th March. \nFind all the info at the conference website.

DESCRIPTION:The 2019 edition of the EurOCEAN conference will take place in Paris\, France\, on 11th-12th June.\nEurOCEAN are a series of high level marine policy conferences where the marine research community and stakeholders meet European and Member State policymakers and strategic planners to discuss new marine science and technology developments\, challenges and opportunities. \nSince the first edition in 2004\, EurOCEAN conferences have provided inputs to a number of strategic science policy developments in Europe. Joint policy statements by conference delegates – EurOCEAN Declarations – have been delivered and have greatly impacted research and policy developments in Europe in the field of marine science. \nTo participate\, the early bird registration deadline is 14 April.\nThe conference programme is available here.\nVisti the conference website for more information.

SUMMARY:Collaboration for the Impactful earth System Science\,
DESCRIPTION:“Collaboration for the Impactful Earth System Science”\, the final ENVRIplus dissemination event\, will take place in Brussels on Tuesday 4 June. \nThe main objective of the event is to share knowledge and set a discussion about the role of European Environmental Research Infrastructures (EERIs). Key topics will include:\n– The results of ENVRIplus\n– The societal impact of EERIs\n– Strategy and sustainability of the EERIs\n– The role of EERIs in the global Earth observations \nThe event is planned to be interactive\, presenting the results and future of the joint collaboration among EERIs through a mix of talks\, panel discussions and science market format. \nMore information here. \nView the event flyer.

SUMMARY:Advances in ocean biological observations – sustained system for deep-ocean meroplankton
DESCRIPTION:“Advances in ocean biological observations – sustained system for deep-ocean meroplankton” is a foresight workshop to be held in Aveiro\, Portugal from 27th to 29th May 2019. \nThe workshop is organized by Euromarine in collaboration with CSIC and EMSO partner Ifremer. Its aims are “to review state-of-the-art instrumentation available for plankton observations in shallow and deep waters\, and develop a strategy to implement technological innovations for in-situ observations that can be combined with biophysical oceanographic modelling\, to provide accurate\, reliable and cost-efficient data for deep-sea realms”. \nThe ultimate goal is to foster the advancement of knowledge on invertebrate larval distributions\, in order to improve model predictions of connectivity and resilience of benthic communities to natural and human impacts. \nThe workshop will focus on the following three major themes: \n\nKnowledge advances in deep-sea larval diversity and distribution: key challenges and priorities\nRecent developments in plankton observation technology and approaches (e.g. autonomous systems\, image analysis\, and -omics)\nData integration and oceanographic modelling\n\nDeadline for registration is 30 April. \nMore details at the event webpage.
