With a distinguished international career and a track record of scientific leadership, Fabio Florindo has been appointed by the Minister of University and Research (MUR) to lead the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) in the coming years. His leadership will focus on advancing excellence and innovation, further strengthening the Institute’s position as a global authority in Geosciences.

Florindo has a degree in Geological Sciences and a PhD in Geophysics from the University of Southampton (UK). Over the years, he has taken on increasing responsibilities within the INGV and currently serves as Research Director.

“My commitment is to reinforce INGV’s role as a center of scientific excellence on a global scale,” Florindo stated. “A key priority will be the enhancement of monitoring networks through the integration of cutting-edge technologies, ensuring a more effective response to natural hazards.”

INGV will continue to face critical global challenges, including climate change and geodynamic processes, through interdisciplinary research and strategic international collaborations.

“Through these and many other initiatives,” Florindo added, “INGV will remain at the forefront of Earth Science research, making significant contributions to the safety and understanding of our planet.”
