The EMSO ERIC Strategic Workshop represents a crucial opportunity to discuss and implement the strategic direction of EMSO ERIC, bringing together leading researchers and key players from the entire EMSO ERIC community.

The workshop will feature thematic sessions that provide a comprehensive overview of current trends and future directions in EMSO marine research and service provision. There will also be plenary sessions with key representatives from international organisations, research institutions, EU projects, and technology companies.

Key topics:

  • EMSO scientific and technological strategy
  • New opportunities and challenges in marine research
  • International collaborations and partnerships
  • Scaling up data provision and AI integration
  • Capacity building and EMSO Academy
  • Future EMSO Services: Design for a joint operation
  • Partnership with the private sector

Experience the workshop in-person or online! Registration is required. Registration Deadline: March 5th

EMSO ERIC was created in September 2016 and will soon reach its 10 th anniversary. Since 2016, the European landscape of research infrastructures has evaluated and the European research agenda moved along the political societal and economical context. After the up-coming Infra call 2025, with the next EU framework programme important changes are expected. EMSO has to be ready and this cannot be improvised on a short term. Sharing our achievements and aligning our vision on a common future are key milestones.

The scope of the workshop is threefold:
1) Day 1 is dedicated to review the scientific and technology strategy in and across EMSO
Regions and to assess the needed technologies and methods (moving platforms, modelling) to better
address the regional scales of observations in the future. Emphasize will be given on the
multidisciplinary aspects and on needed collaborations (current ones and potential future ones).

2) Day 2 is dedicated to review the EMSO practices and technologies and to elaborate on the
future ones. The service for Physical Access will be presented. Past and currently deployed
technologies will be presented. We will discuss the needed technologies to progress from fixed-point
observation to fixed region observation as well as the corresponding methodologies to analyse the
data and obtain meaningful scientific results. Sensors and technologies providers are invited to
participate to present some future possibilities.

3) Day 3 will build on the previous two days to propose the future EMSO services and
discuss their structuring and integrative implementation. Operational objectives will be
discussed to propose thematic/scientific centres and technical services. Services and
thematic centres operated in some other ERIC will serve as examples. The current EMSO
catalogue of services will be presented. The EMSO communication strategy and capacity
building will be discussed.
