Participants of 12th FerryBox Workshop and adjacent MINKE metrology workshops
The 12th FerryBox workshop organised in Helsinki 1-2 October 2024 collected 70 scientists and technicians to share experiences and knowledge about operational oceanography and autonomous observation systems placed in commercial ferries, research vessels and fixed platforms. MINKE stakeholder analysis (Link to D1.2 ) identified that the availability and reliability of biological EOVs are behind the physical ones and proposed that
MINKE could be a key actor in harmonizing emerging methods by connecting the scientific community, metrologists, and sensor manufacturers.
Adjacent to FerryBox workshop MINKE organised two targeted metrology workshops targeting fluorecence measurements (30 September 2024) and plankton imaging (3 October). Both workshops included roughly 30 participants, including some early career scientists and technical staff supported financially by MINKE. The main aims of the workshops were to facilitate improvements in the quality of these emerging biological measurements specifically for FerryBox applications, raise the metrology awareness of the new generation of FerryBox scientists and improve the
dialogue between marine science, metrology and sensor manufacturers.
