The Western Mediterranean research facility (W1M3A) attended the GenOAweek 2024 on 7 November 2024 at the Research Area of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche in Genoa.

The GenOA Week is an annual event organized by the University of Genoa in collaboration with institutions such as the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN), the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR), and the Italian Library Association’s Liguria Section (AIB Liguria). It aligns with the International Open Access Week, providing a platform to discuss and promote Open Access and Open Science practices.

The event was comprised of sessions dedicated to presentations about the implementation plan of the CNR Open Science Roadmap, and national and international speakers addressing topics such as the so-called Diamond Open Access, copyright, and access to research infrastructures.

A significant session during the 2024 GenOA Week was “Research Infrastructures for Open Science,” organized by Alessia Bardi from CNR-ISTI. This session highlighted the crucial role of research infrastructures in scientific and technological advancement, particularly in supporting Open Science practices. It explored how these infrastructures facilitate collaboration among researchers, data collection, analysis, and sharing, thereby promoting transparency and reproducibility. The session also presented both national and international infrastructures, with a focus on experiences within the Liguria region.

Within this session, the W1M3A team gave a talk entitled “The Open Science service of the W1M3A observatory” and discussed several aspects related to the access to research infrastructure and showcased the experience regarding access to the infrastructure within the EMSO physical access opportunity.

Overall, GenOA Week serves as a vital platform for reflecting on scientific communication and the challenges of Open Science, fostering discussions on practices and policies related to open access to research infrastructures.
